The largest and most developed island nation in the tropical South Pacific, Fiji caters for every imaginable maritime activity. In the waters around Fiji‘s over 330 islands are some of the most extensive and beautiful coral reefs in the world, offering an endless range of snorkelling and diving. The main resorts are concentrated off the western coast of the primary island, Viti Levu, particularly in two archipelagos of small volcanic islands, the Mamanuca (pronounced Mamanutha) and the Yasawa Groups. Here every island is a gem, with palms, white sand, a turquoise lagoon and surrounding reef. Some islands, such as Turtle Island, Mana Island, Beachcomber, Castaway, Malolo and Musket Cove, are given over almost entirely to water sports, including sailing, diving, glassbottom boating, sea kayaking, parasailing, waterskiing and jet skiing. Many resorts here offer diving tuition. Between Momi and Pacific Harbour, on Viti Levu‘s south side, is the Coral Coast, 80 kilometres of beaches where virtually all water sports can be enjoyed within the lagoon and outside the reef.
A little further afield, there is also superb diving to be had on the southern coast of the second largest island, Vanua Levu, at Savusavu Bay. Here the JeanMichel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort and other luxury resorts are located. Nearby is Rainbow Reef, a worldrenowned, 32 kilometre diving site. Gamefishing is also very popular in this area. The waters surrounding the Fiji Islands are very popular for luxury cruise ships which regularly call at the port of Suva and islands such as Dravuni and YasawaIRara, while private yacht charters can also be taken through the archipelagos. Cruising is a great way to experience the aquatic beauty of the islands of Fiji in comfort and convenience. Each day brings a new island, and another land and sea vista.
